Best Glee Song Ever! )

That just helps further my plan. I'm going to be Quinn Fabray for Halloween. I've highlighted my hair again, so it'll totally work. Lyric can can be a Cheerio. We'll match. It'll be awesome.

[ music | "Hate On Me" - The Cast of Glee ]

Ever feel like you're falling apart at the seams? Or like you're standing in the middle of a crowded room screaming at the top of your lungs and no one seems to notice?

Yeah. That's where I am right now.

New album finished. Have production nonsense to work on, but that's it.

Thinking about taking my daughter, who still swears that she has the swine flu (and also told me that she wants a pet kangaroo - I told her to tell her daddy), and possibly my husband, and disappearing.

I get that it's pandemic level and blah blah blah...but I'm so over this whole H1N1/let's report on every instance where someone sneezed funny thing the news feels necessary to broadcast ALL THE TIME.

It's ridiculous.

And I know it's ridiculous because while I was getting her dressed this morning so we could go to "work" (she calls playing at the studio her work, which, in a way, she's kinda right), my two year old daughter, the Village of the Damned ringleader child that we call Lyric, informed me that she couldn't go to work today because she has the swine flu. Literally. "Can't go, mama. I sick. I gots swine flu."

She's two. She doesn't even know what the flu is, much less this so-called swine flu.

[ music | "Masquerade" - Backstreet Boys ]

I'm still a such a fangirl. Got my copy of the CD today instead of tomorrow with the rest of the country.

Next on my list of things to do before I die - perform with the group that made my little teen heart skip a beat. Oh, who am I kidding? They still make me a little giddy. Even minus a member and mostly married with kids. And I'm not gonna lie. If I ever get the chance, I know exactly what I want to sing with them.

And since Jaisen says I can't have John Mayer (which I know already 'cause I gave him to Jilli-bean!), can I have the Boys? Please?!

Also, I'm giving away my daughter for the day. I want to be a teenage fangirl and dance to the Backstreet Boys like old times. She wants to watch Dora the Explorer. Clearly, we are at an impasse. And I refuse to let Gabriel vote because he will side with the little blonde one. Because they have some sort of weird psychic Jedi connection or whatever and it's mildly creepy. My daughter is the leader of the Village of the Damned.

And no, I have not been eating pop rocks and drinking Jolt. Promise! Okay...maybe I have.

EDIT:
Not that you need ANY other reason to watch Glee than it's the most amazing and hilarious show out there, but how many people in general would have considered to combine Bon Jovi and Usher, much less create a whole routine to it?!

My favorite one so far - it totally blows Gold Digger out of the water! )

[ music | "Your Body is a Wonderland" - John Mayer ]

I'm officially a video posting fanatic. But this is actually for my favorite little 'sister' Jilli. Back sometime in July, she posted about a certain performer.

Back story to this is as follows: I had a set engagement to perform at 213, the club that Jason and I co-own. Someone told me earlier that day that John Mayer saw the video of the grand opening when I performed "Your Body Is A Wonderland" and wanted to know if I'd be performing it again. Apparently, they got with the band and put together a "Realize/Your Body Is A Wonderland" medley. They knew something I didn't.

So this morning, a fan posted this to the forum and I knew I totally needed to show this to Jilli. It was a serious surprise to me and I loved it! So much so that I felt the need to post my favorite icon of me with my husband because I feel a little guilty about just how happy performing with him again made me.

I might have given him your number, Jillian! )

One of the guys in the studio sent me this video and since I've bragged on him in the past, it's only fair I post this to share him and his talent. He's been one of my best friends since just about forever. I just wish they would have showed you what was on the other side of the piano - he was singing to Lyric who was crashed on one of the couches in the lounge. Leave it to my daughter to abandon the normal lullabies in favor of a Top 40 hit.

Ladies and gentlemen, Jason Marsh. )

Time for a Mandie mini info-dump!

First of all, I'm working on a new album. You can blame Jason Marsh and Jaisen Natians and a couple of my other friends who have been pushing for something new other than the cover stuff I post online. So I've dusted off some of the stuff that I've written of my own, given it life, and after the longest possible night in history (in which I also made everyone in Marshland Studio follow Althea Gibson King on Twitter!), there is officially a new Mandie album in the works. And this is all you're currently getting from me, sneak peek-wise!

Second, there will be two things taking place on Halloween that you should all be part of. The first is the Halloween carnival that will be benefitting both the Make-A-Wish Foundation and UNICEF. It's a family friendly event that will include a costume contest, pumpkin carving, all sorts of carnival games, live music, and even trick-or-treating so that the kids can do so in a safe environment and even enjoy that candy and still make it to bed on time. The second event is the Halloween masquerade and benefits the AIDS Project Los Angeles. It's this year's answer to the second-chance prom and no, you don't have to dress formally - but you do have to be in costume!

Third, I might have called the Glee casting director. Because you just don't understand how obsessed I already am with this show! And while I'm talking about music-related things, am I the only one that worries about this Fame remake? I have nothing against them remaking it necessarily, but I don't like the remade theme song. I'm actually a bit depressed by it, to tell you the truth. I am, however, curious to see what's gonna happen with this Footloose remake.

Fourth, SyFy is playing back-to-back Ghost Hunters. This girl's butt is going to be firmly planted to the couch. Just saying.

Fifth, September 25. Smallville. I hate that they moved it to Fridays, but whatever. New Zod. Clark in a new suit. Clark/Lois sex scene. I am one happy Mandie, let me tell you.

And finally, why is all-weather duct tape thin and clear? It looks and feels like packing tape. Shouldn't something made for "all weather" be more...sturdy?

[ music | "Gold Digger" - The Cast of Glee ]

FOX is genius for broadcasting Glee. I want to be part of that show in ways that you just can't even begin to comprehend. I think it's brilliant. It's funny, but it also points out something that is insanely and increasingly evident. Too much focus and money goes into sports in school and not enough goes to the arts.

Besides, how many kids would rush to join performance arts programs if they got to sing something like this? Not saying that Kanye and Jamie weren't great, but I really kinda like this version. Mostly because I was that obsessive musician in school. Then again, we've established previously that I let my daughter listen to inappropriate things, so I would be okay with high school students performing this. It's better than some of the bullshit they listen to on their own anyway.

Seriously, people bitch about the quality of music that's being released these days, but they want to pull all the school funding from programs that would further potential future talent. I know, I know, I harp on this at least once a year it seems. But it's important to me! Evan fills long posts with political statements, I'm filling posts with rants about music and performing arts. It's just the way of our world.

Speaking of things that are important to me, I didn't get the opportunity to do my annual second chance prom this year. We're doing a couple of different things to make up for it - a Halloween masquerade and a crazy midnight bowling tournament. Then next year, all will be as it has been. And I'm helping Kiele plan her wedding. And Jaisen's getting into his music these days and I love helping foster that. People should be encouraged to follow creative efforts.

Which reminds me that my little sunshine and I have fingerpainting to do. It's a beautiful morning.

Hi people! It's Mandie! Jason's in the studio, which, as you've seen before, is insanity at its finest, but he's working away at a new album (which I know you will all love). Also, if you haven't been to my myspace page lately, you should check out the song that's currently playing on my profile - the artist is an awesome friend of mine, Jaisen Natians, and I'm so thrilled that it's hit the internet. Music should be enjoyed by all. Not hidden away from the rest of the world.

That said, my longtime irritatingly funny friend Jason Marsh (the fool in the studio making faces at me as I type this - HI JASON!) reminded me that I've yet to post the video to my own song, which is currently making its own rounds about the web. To be honest, I'm a little nervous about posting the video. Not just because it was a labor of love for me to write the song itself, but because even the video is full of people that I couldn't live my life without. I wish I could have included my daughter Lyric in this video, but she was sick while we were filming. So in her place, we "borrowed" my sister-in-law's oldest child. Kiele, thank you so much for letting us make Nick a star - he loved it, especially when he got to jump in the pool! Also, Tessa, I know it was difficult for you to find the time to be here, but it was great to have you! And Danielle? Next time, you're making a cameo.

Gabriel, as always, ♥.

Feel This - the video. )

[ music | "Ponyo Theme (English)" - Frankie Jonas & Noah Cyrus ]

I'm now going to have to take my daughter to see Ponyo. She saw a video with clips of the movie and now that's all we listen to. ALL. DAY. LONG. I'm not saying it's not going to be cute - everything I've heard of the Japanese movie is adorable. And I think Frankie Jonas is hilarious. But REALLY?!

Word of warning: If you play this song and find yourself with it stuck in your head, it is NOT. MY. FAULT.
Lyric's new favorite song. )

An open invitation and a dedication. [08/02/2009 @ 10:33am]
[ mood | busy ]

My little girl is two years old. Can you believe it? As of Friday, we officially hit our terrible twos. And apparently to symbolize this transition, she's become a big fan of that hateful little word "no." Our conversation about her birthday went a little something like this:

"Lyric, baby, do you want to have a birthday party?"
"No."
"Not even a little one?"
"No."
"No cake and ice cream?"
"Yes cake. No party."
"You're totally Sebastian's child. It's all about food with you. Do you want to invite Daddy and Trixie and Anna over?"
"No. [pause] Yes. Anna."
"Then Daddy and Trixie have to come too. What about Aunt Kiele and Scotch and Nick and Leni and Grace?"
"No. [pause] Yes. Leni."
"Can the others come play too, though?"
"No."
"What about Gabriel and Aunt Dani? Aunt Jilli?"
"No."

And that's right about the time that Lyric decided to get up from coloring and run around the living room going "nononononono!" And a chase ensued followed by the tickle monster game. And that's been the routine for over a month now.

Needless to say, we're just having cake and ice cream here at the house today. Anyone and everyone is welcome to come, despite what her royal highness says. Nothing big. I still have the giant ball pit in the house and I'll get all the pool toys blown up and we'll cook out.

Also, Gabriel, come home. )

Spent most of last night at the studio mourning one great loss in music history. He may have been a questionable man, but musically, he was brilliant. Still kinda hyped after singing with the crew. So much like old times. Also, Farrah Fawcett is truly an angel now. Rest peacefully.
